Frostbite League

Tue, 27th Sep 2011 - 12:00 a.m.

This Sunday sees the first of the 5-mile Frostbite runs at St. Neots. 10:15am for the Juniors (1 mile) and 11:00am for the Seniors. We need at least 7 men and 3 women to make a team plus as many others as possible to push other club's counters down the list! We usually have problems getting the best girls out, which is a shame, because they really do make a difference in the team stakes, and propel us up the league table.

Some of us will be leaving our cars at Stilton in the High Street (by the Village Hall), at 9:00am and cycling to St.Neots from there. Hope you can join us.

Sat, 8th Oct 2011 - 12:00 a.m.

Hi all,

I've been promoted to Frostbite Team Captain! So I'll be keeping you informed of our results and trying to get a team together for each of the legs.

For last week's first leg we had 10 men and 1 lady racing. We had 6th (Paul Vernon) and 7th (John Murray, great result), plus 2 more in the top 100. A special welcome to new member Dillom Dhanecha. Sadly Mariska was the only lady.

As a team we were 12th out of 16. If we had had a full team of 3 ladies, we would have been at least a few places higher.

Full results are on http://www.frostbiteleague.org.uk/default.html

The next leg is on 6th November in Bushfield, Peterborough. This is a quick course and just a little bit over 5 miles, so it could be a PB race. We usually have our best turnout in this one and it would be great to have a good team and improve on our result.

So if you are keen to do a FREE but well organised race with a big field and a wide range of levels, put the 6th of November in your diary. I will ask people to inform me if they plan to race, just so I know if we are short of runners.

Thanks,
Jaap

Hi all,

Next Sunday 6 November is the 2nd leg of this winter's Frostbite season, at Bushfield in Peterborough. Great course, flat apart from 1 or 2 bridges and underpasses, nice mixture of off- and on-road. And always a very large field. The start is at 11am, and it's free. See http://www.frostbiteleague.org.uk for details of the venue and course.

It would be great if we could get a big & good team together. We had some good results at last month's first leg in St Neots, but could particularly do with more ladies. The first three ladies count toward the results, so if we only have one like last month, we lose a lot of points. Don't worry if you think you are slow: there are (almost) always slower runners, so your result will help our ranking!

If you plan to run (or even think you might run), could you please let me know, preferably on the Forum?

By the way, I have three trophies for last year's Pactrac Frostbite runners of the season. Mariska won the ladies trophy, but I still have:
Angelina Freeman - girls
James Noble - boys
Neil Oakey - men
Let me know if you are racing on Sunday so I can give you the trophy. Or if not, how I can get it to you.

Thanks very much,
Jaap Flikweert

Hi Jaap.

Come on Ladies. You could distribute the Trophies at the AGM on Friday.

Come on Ladies. I will be running on Sunday, but you are absoluuuuuuutely right, we do need more ladies running.

Come on ladies. Bushfield is the local race, where we usually get the best attendance.

Come on Ladies. We also have a couple of flags at Stanground. A lot of other clubs seem to be using their's this year at the Frostbites.

Come on Ladies.

Thu, 3rd Nov 2011 - 12:00 a.m.

Hi all,

Based on the responses we should have around 7 men and around 3 ladies
racing on Sunday. But some are uncertain, so it would be good to get a few
more confirmations.

There is a slight change in course compared to recent years: the start and
most of the course is the same but the final half mile is different and the
finish is on the sports fields. See
http://www.frostbiteleague.org.uk/Default%20page/Race2%20Bushy%20Route%20Sat.pdf.

As most of you will know, you need to wear a Pactrac vest or top to race in
the Frostbite league. Don't worry if you don't have one: I'll bring some
along on Sunday.

Finally: the teams to beat on Sunday are Yaxley (finished just ahead of us
last time) and Ramsey (just behind us). So if you see someone in
green/yellow or in red/white just ahead, dig in!

See you on Sunday, or at tomorrow's swim / AGM.

I am running on Sunday and so is my husband Brian Mcgeeney, we are both PACTRAC members, new to the club this season and we don't have club kit. Please don't hope for any remarkable results, from me anyway!

Welcome to the club Caroline & Brian! Hope you had a great run this morning - the pics certainly look good. If I hadn't been at a 3 year old's birthday party at junglemania soft play I deffo would have been there...

Did Jaap sort you some kit?

Hi all,

Well done to those that took part in last Sunday's race in Bushfield. We had a decent turn-out with 14 men and 5 ladies. We were ninth, and just 15 points behind BRJ who came 8th. Overall we are in shared 11th, but just two points behind March who are in 8th. If we keep up this sort of team size, 8th overall should be an achievable goal for the year, and we'll have done well for a bunch of triathletes...

Some very good individual results again: John Murray and Paul Vernon in 9th and 10th, Paul Spain in 22nd and Robin Brookes 43rd, and our other male scorers all finishing in the top 105. Good running from the rest of the men as well though, including at least four Frostbite / 5 mile PBs. A special welcome to new member Brian McGreeney.

Well done to the ladies too; having a full team made a big difference but there were some good results as well, with Emma Cranfield within the first 20 ladies. Well done to new members Caroline Randeria and Pippa Lawton for scoring us points (or nearly). The full results are on http://www.frostbiteleague.org.uk/

Remember: even if you are not in the first 7 men or 3 ladies, you still improve our result by pushing the runners from other clubs to lower places and reducing their scores! And for the less competitively inclined: it's a great way to get in a low key (and free) race in the winter season, with some team spirit thrown in. See also the photos on the homepage.

The next race is on 11 December at Hinchinbrooke Park in Huntingdon; mostly forest tracks and a bit of tarmac. Put it in your diary!
