Frostbite 2011/2012

Sun, 4th Dec 2011 - 12:00 a.m.

Hi all,
Next week is the 3rd race in the Frostbite league. It's in Hinchingbrooke Park in Huntingdon, on a mixed track and tarmac course. Full details of the course and directions are on the Frostbite website, see http://www.frostbiteleague.org.uk/

We did very well as a team in last month's second leg in Bushfield, and if we get a similar turn-out we could move up to 8th place. Everyone at all levels is very welcome and contributes to the team result. There is always a risk that we don't have enough ladies, so they are especially welcome.

Please let me know if you plan to run, either on the Forum or via email.

A few more details about the race from the website (more details incl a very complicated course map on the site itself):

The race, hosted by Hunts AC, is a mixture of soft tracks, grass and a section of tarmac, it’s not suitable for spikes but off-road trainers are ideal.

If you are travelling to the race along the A1 or A14 please try to use the Hinchingbrooke Business Park PE29 6FL where there is ample parking. Please do not park in the residential estate at the end of Christie Drive.

Thu, 8th Dec 2011 - 12:00 a.m.

Hi all,

I haven’t had many confirmations yet: 4 men and 1 lady thus far. Please let me know if you plan to run.

Thanks
Jaap

Fri, 9th Dec 2011 - 12:00 a.m.

Hi Jaap

I spoke to you after swimming last Friday. Yes I will be there, just need a vest

Regards
Cath

Fri, 9th Dec 2011 - 12:00 a.m.

Hi Cath,

That's great, see you there. I will bring vests and running t-shirts. I'm afraid you will have to buy it (treasurer's orders...).

To all: we have a few more runners now, but everyone is welcome (even if you haven't confirmed but wake up on Sunday with an uncontrollable urge to run a race).

Sat, 10th Dec 2011 - 6:16 p.m.

Hi all,

Looks like we’ve got a decent team for tomorrow’s race.

As I emailed before, we are looking up for the team standings. On equal points or just above us are Bushfield, Thorney, Fenland and March, so if you see any of them just ahead, dig a bit deeper!

See you tomorrow.

Jaap

Sat, 17th Dec 2011 - 6:03 p.m.

Hi all,

Great team effort last week in Hinchinbrooke: we got 7th place, but were less than 80 points off 5th! So just one or two more of our top (male or female) runners would have got us there. We are now up to 8th overall, as I thought we could, but we can now even look up to 7th place: March AC are just 1 point ahead, and we beat them in this race. So next time, look out for those blue vests!
(not sure where the author of the website 'news' section got his facts about us moving up from last - we weren't that bad before ;}

Good individual results again: great result for John Murray in 7th, and all our male scorers were in the first 79. Emma Cranfield was 12th lady, despite cycling in with a headwind. Well done as well to debutants Simon Pauffley and Cath Hunt. We had 10 men and 5 ladies, which is probably the best turnout we've ever had in Hinchingbrooke: let's keep it up, and a few more are very welcome! It's a great way to catch up with clubmates with a cup of tea after the race.

The next race is on Sunday 15 January in March, on a new course - details to follow but I imagine it will be flat... Put it in your diary!

Sat, 7th Jan 2012 - 9:31 p.m.

Hi all,

Next week Sunday is the 4th Frostbite race of the season. It is at Whitemoor Prison, just north of March; see http://www.frostbiteleague.org.uk for directions and course information. As always the start for the seniors is at 11am, and it's free to race. It looks like the course is a mixture of grass tracks, rural roads and farm tracks, and it’s bound to be flat.

We've had some very good team and individual results thus far, so let's keep it up! We are currently in 8th place out of 16. If we make it to 7th at the end of the series, that would be the best club result since the 98/99 season!

You will need to run in some form of Pactrac gear. I will bring some vests to buy; do let me know if you need that because not all sizes are available.

Please let me know if you plan to run, so that I will know if we have a full team!

Thanks,
Jaap

Sun, 8th Jan 2012 - 8:16 p.m.

Hi Jaap,
I have just joined the club and would be pleased to support the run. I can't promise to add much to the points tally but will make up the numbers.
Can you let me know if you have a vest to fit a 39" chest and how much they are.
I hope to get to the swim session on Wednesday so could pick one up there if possible.
Thanks
Steve

Thu, 12th Jan 2012 - 8:32 p.m.

Hi Steve,

Great, it will be good to see you.

I wasn't at the swim yesterday. I will be there tomorrow, but I'll also be on time ahead of Sunday's race so we can sort out the vest then. I have an L vest (£21), a medium short sleeve t-shirt (£22) and large and medium long sleeve t-shirts (£25). If these are not your size, we'll have to order one. I'm sure it will be acceptable to run in non-club gear this one time.

See you on Sunday!
Jaap

Thu, 12th Jan 2012 - 9:43 p.m.

Hi all,

It looks like we have nearly got a full team for Sunday: I’ve had confirmations from 6 or 7 men and 2 ladies. We could really do with a few more, both men and women; let me know if you want to run.

Thanks,
Jaap

Fri, 13th Jan 2012 - 7:19 p.m.

Hi Jaap
A medium short sleeve t-shirt sounds perfect.
I will see you on Sunday.

Steve

Mon, 16th Jan 2012 - 8:27 p.m.

Hi all,

Some very good running again at yesterday's Frostbite.

The men's team had the best result of the year thus far, with Paul Vernon in 7th, 3 in the top 20, and all 7 scorers in the first 83 finishers. Three first timers as well: Steve Coombs and Andy Chapman with some great first races. And of course Chairman Mike, who did his first Frostbite in Pactrac colours.

We only had two ladies, but they did very well too: Emma in 95th was 7th lady, and Mariska ran her 2nd best time of the year despite an injury.

Overall we were 8th, despite not having a full team. We are now in joint 7th place with Fenland (who just beat us) and March (who were just behind us), and Thorney (who had a freak result in 5th) are only one point behind. So it's going down to the wire in the last two races, on the 5th of February and the 4th of March!

So here's a call for all the ladies in the club: if we had had 1 extra lady in the team who can run a 48 minute 5 mile, we'd have come 7th ahead of Fenland and be comfortably in 7th place overall now. But more importantly, you missed out on a good rural run over a varied course with lots of other runners of all abilities. Everyone is welcome, it really doesn't matter how fast you are, and it's a great social event as well (we don't all talk about times and results all the time, honestly).

The 5th Frostbite of the year is on the 5th of February in Bourne. Put it in your diary!

Thanks,
Jaap

Tue, 31st Jan 2012 - 10:11 p.m.

Hi all,

This Sunday is the 5th Frostbite race of the season, in the woods near Bourne. For directions and course information, see http://www.frostbiteleague.org.uk. I've always missed this one because of injuries, but Georgina tells me it's a lovely woody course. As always, the seniors race starts at 11am. There's no entry fee, so just turn up and run! Do make sure you've got some form of club kit to wear (I'll have some for sale with me).

We have been having a decent turnout, so there are plenty of clubmates to chat with. And it means we've been doing very well in the standings. We are battling for 7th place (out of 17) against Fenland, March and Thorney. But we've lost a lot of points due to not having a full team of 3 ladies a few times. If we do have a full team, then we have a very good chance of beating them and getting 7th. That would be the best result since the 98/99 season!

Please let me know if you plan to run, so that I can rally the troops if we need any more.

Thanks,
Jaap

Wed, 1st Feb 2012 - 10:20 a.m.

Hi Jaap

Yep I am planning to run. I need to run after to get more mileage in if anyone fancies keeping me company.

Sam

Wed, 1st Feb 2012 - 11:12 p.m.

Hi Jaap
I should be there to make up the numbers again.
Steve

Thu, 2nd Feb 2012 - 8:54 a.m.

Hi Jaap,

I plan on running on Sunday.

See you there
Dave

Thu, 2nd Feb 2012 - 3:28 p.m.

Thu, 2nd Feb 2012 - 3:31 p.m.

I'll be there, but we need 3 women as a minimum. How well teams do in the overall league, does depend on getting the women out there, running.

Steve, can you be Stephanie for the day, and Dave, can you be Davina?

Thu, 2nd Feb 2012 - 6:16 p.m.

Hi,
Quick update: I've got confirmation from 5 men and (hold your breath) 3 ladies! That's Sam, Georgina and Mariska. So we really need a few more men, and of course we want to see more ladies as well.
Jaap

Thu, 2nd Feb 2012 - 9:56 p.m.

That's a result as I really didn't want to run in a skirt at -2c

Fri, 3rd Feb 2012 - 10:00 a.m.

I only dress as a woman on a Saturday. Sorry Steve

Fri, 3rd Feb 2012 - 4:28 p.m.

You can include me in your tally of ladies

Sat, 4th Feb 2012 - 8:31 a.m.

Hi all,

It looks like we've got a good team ready to race on Sunday. The only concern however is the weather, especially getting to Bourne safely. The race organisers are going to take a good look at this as well and will confirm in the course of today and Sunday morning whether the race is on or not. Keep an eye on the website: http://www.frostbiteleague.org.uk/. I'll send updates if needed.

Thanks,
Jaap

Sat, 4th Feb 2012 - 5:14 p.m.

Bourne run is cancelled

Sat, 4th Feb 2012 - 6:26 p.m.

Indeed it is. Thanks Steve.

Wed, 8th Feb 2012 - 9:13 a.m.

Hi all,

Pity that Sunday's race was cancelled, but obviously it was the right thing to do. Just a heads up that the Frostbite committee are considering rescheduling the Bourne race, which would then be on either 26 February or 18 March. Updates will follow.

Of course you are all aware that the next scheduled Frostbite is on Sunday 5 March. It's in Huntingdon, on the traditional BRJ course - all on-road, usually a very fast course. Put it in your diary!

Jaap

Sun, 12th Feb 2012 - 11:57 a.m.

Hi,
Just to confirm that the Bourne Frostbite race will not be rescheduled. So that means the Frostbite series will consist of 5 races only this year. All the more important that we get a good team out on Sunday 4 March at BRJ in Huntingdon!
Jaap

Sun, 12th Feb 2012 - 12:03 p.m.

Another Frostbite message: the Frostbite Presentation evening will be held on Saturday 24 March, in conjunction with Bushfield Joggers' 30th birthday party. Apart from the top three teams, each team's runners of the series will also get their prizes (please send your bribes to me to be nominated...).

The event is at The Plough in Farcet, Peterborough, 7pm till late, and includes a disco & hog roast. Tickets are £13, please contact me if you are interested.

Tue, 28th Feb 2012 - 5:51 a.m.

Hi all,
This Sunday is the last Frostbite race of the season, in Huntingdon, organised by BRJ. The course is the same as before: all on roads in the town, undulating but still a fast course - I have my 5mile PB here. They have moved the race headquarters however: these are at the Lord Protector Pub, and it's a 10-12 minute walk to the start from there. See http://www.frostbiteleague.org.uk.

As always, the seniors race starts at 11am. There's no entry fee, so just turn up and run! Do make sure you've got some form of club kit to wear. I'll have some for sale with me - let me know if you need any.

It will be a battle against Fenland, March and Thorney for 7th place: we are on the same points as Fenland and March, and one ahead of Thorney. If we have a full team, previous results show that we have a very good chance of beating them.

Please let me know if you plan to run!

Thanks,
Jaap

Thu, 1st Mar 2012 - 4:20 p.m.

Hi Jaap,

I'd like to race on Sunday but don't have any club kit! I normally fit a size medium if that's helpful?

Thanks.

Thu, 1st Mar 2012 - 6:56 p.m.

Hi David,
Good to hear that you plan to run. We have plenty of medium running shirts, both long sleeve (£25) and short sleeve (£22). I'll bring them on Sunday.
Jaap

Thu, 1st Mar 2012 - 7:15 p.m.

Count me in too. I'll need a medium shirt of some description too.

Fri, 2nd Mar 2012 - 6:07 p.m.

Jaap
I will be there on Sunday to make up the numbers.
Regards
Steve

Sat, 3rd Mar 2012 - 4:56 p.m.

I have the two PACTRAC flags so might need some help to put them up at a suitable point. Plus we might need half a dozen volunteers to protect them. This is the Oxmoor Estate we are talking about!

Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 - 7:55 p.m.

Hi all,
This is the very last Frostbite message of the 2011/2012 season! The Frostbite AGM is on 13 May 2012. Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions to make. I am personally happy with the current set-up, so if there are no further suggestions, then that's Pactrac's message to the organisers.
Thanks
Jaap
