Ride and Tie 18th March.

Mon, 12th Mar 2012 - 9:58 a.m.

The next club race is the Ride and Tie this Sunday. We have booked Woodnewton Village Hall and expect to start the race at 10:15am. It is Mother's Day so we will start on time. Last year the winners did it in 1:20 hours. Please note that we have invited a number of local running clubs to join us, so it would be really good to get a few PACTRACers out to support the event. PACTRACers will be paired up on the day. However, the other clubs can pair up in advance if they wish to do so. Please bring a cake for afterwards if you can. We have 3 marshalls who have so far volunteered, but need 4.

There will also be a run starting at 9:30am for those that would prefer this option. It will be led by the Werrington Joggers over a 10 mile cross country course, as they know the area. You should be back in time to see the Ride and Tie race finish, and enjoy a cup of tea and cakes in the VH afterwards.

Ride and Tie: 3 laps of a 6-mile circuit around Woodnewton, Nassington and nr Apethorpe.
Team member A bikes 1 lap, then runs 1 lap; whilst Team member B runs 1 lap then bikes 1 lap. On the 3rd lap you have just 1 bike and can change biker and runner as many times as you like. The clock stops when the 2nd team member crosses the line.

Mon, 12th Mar 2012 - 11:07 a.m.

Steve, I don't mind marshalling this one if you still need someone. Just let me know where and when (and tell me its not gonna rain!)

Mon, 12th Mar 2012 - 10:32 p.m.

Hi Tony. That will be great. Can you be at Woodnewton VH for about 9:45am and I will let you know where to go. It's not gonna rain.

Tue, 13th Mar 2012 - 8:38 a.m.

Will do - and thanks for sorting the weather! See you there. I'll probably be on my bike so if I need to be stationed at the extremity of the course give me a bit of time to get there - I'd hate to be beaten to my post by the competitors!

Wed, 14th Mar 2012 - 2:16 p.m.

Sorry Steve - I'm not going to be able to make it on Sunday now - Got to go in to work.

Wed, 14th Mar 2012 - 3:08 p.m.

We have 1 Timekeeper and need 2.

We have 3 marshalls and need 3 or 4.

We have at least 3 people bringing cakes, but do not know how many competitors we will have! Their will probably be another 20 runners as well, so a few more cakes would be very welcome.

Fri, 16th Mar 2012 - 9:01 p.m.

Now have 1 Timekeeper (need 2) and 2 marshalls (need 3 or 4).

Also don't forget the run, for anybody that prefers that option (9:30am start). Nobody gets left behind. The faster runners just either wait at various points, or run back according to how they feel.

Sat, 17th Mar 2012 - 4:56 p.m.

Still only got 1 Timekeeper (need 2), and 2 Marshalls (need 4).

Tue, 20th Mar 2012 - 2:46 p.m.

Thanks to those who turned up to help on Sunday. We had 1 Timekeeper, 3 Marshalls, and 2 in the tea room. Just about got by on that, but only because we only had 10 competitors (5 teams). Last year, we opened it up to other running clubs, and got 30 competitors. This year we have gone backwards again. 2 of the helpers were not PACTRACers, so had we had a decent field, we would have been easily outnumbered.

Thanks to those that brought cake, including those from Werrington Joggers.

This was a test event to see if we had the support of the club to organise an open triathlon for 200+ competitor's next year, so that's not looking too good.

This may be the last time that we hold the Ride and Tie as it's clearly not supported. However, the Werrington Joggers suggested to me this morning that they might have a dozen competitors for next year. Do we hold it next year? Do we have the support of the club to organise open and semi-open events?
