Advice for a triathlon virgin

Wed, 2nd May 2012 - 10:14 p.m.

Hi folks
I have booked in at Mallory Park for my first race on Monday.
I have all the gear but no real idea of what to expect. I realise I will find out very quickly...
I am thinking that getting out of a cold pond and starting the bike ride in a wet Tri suit may be too cold.
Would people plan to add a layer in T1 when it's cold or should I just man up and get on with it.
Thanks
Steve

Have to decide on the day, but if you are going to put an extra top on, then put a track suit top on, because it has a zip. Trying to put a t-shirt or bike top over your head when you are wet just takes too much time.

Hi Steve,

I will be there too so I will say hi. It is a sprint distance so I would just get on with it and not worry about more layers. That is unless it is really cold!

The faster you go the quicker it will be over.

See you on Sunday.

Hi Steve
Thanks for the sensible advice. I hadn't thought about the implications be being wet (other than getting cold on the bike). I will take a top with front opening in case it is really cold.

Hi Sam
I look forward to seeing you there. It would be good to cach up before we start. I expect be towards the rear coming into T1 but aim to recover some places on the bike and run.
See you on Monday
Steve
