Tight calves when starting the run section

Fri, 15th Jun 2012 - 12:48 p.m.

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else suffers from tight calves on the first 200 metres or so of the run on the mini-series. By the time I get to the main road it seems to have sorted itself out, but that first straight is problematic!

Is it just because I'm not fit enough yet?.. Or has anyone got any hot tips on how to get around this?

Cheers.

Spin gears on bike for last km will help. But will go with practice.

I had exactly teh same problem in the novice try, which was strage as I had done 2 longer dstances before and not suffered. It might be something to do with driving it up the last hill on the bike so not clearing anny lactic acid from teh legs before transition.

Yeah, I only suffer from this on the mini-series. I haven't had any issues on Olympic distance events in the past.

Thanks for the ideas though!

Hi Dave

Issue can be moving more to a front foot action running off the bike and then you settle down [your foot] to a more comfortable position. Mini series will exaserbate it as wanting go 'fast' will put more pressure on the back of the calf's. The cure simply is lots of bricks and get used to running of the bike at pace.

Hope this helps?

Dave
